If you think that life is unfair, think again. This is a true life account of what happened to this particular family.

Not so long ago, there lived this family of four. They belong to the low income bracket and lived an ordinary life. One day, disaster struck. The son was found unconscious on a field and was sent to the hospital where he fell into a coma. He had to depend on a life support machine for survival but the parents never gave up. Several months later, he regained conscious and could breathe independently. Just when everyone thinks he's alright, the family was dealt another blow. Although he could open his eyes, he is not aware of his surroundings. Meaning, his brain is damaged. How could life be so unfair to a person who exudes such fighting spirit to survive? Whose family never gave up their faith in him? The doctor told them that it is impossible for him to recover and rates his chances at 0%. A second opinion revealed the same diagnosis. To add to their woes, his mother, the sole breadwinner of the family, spiraled into depression and had to seek treatment. His father gave up his job to care for him full time. With the hospital fees costing a bomb and further plans to put him up in a home, they are at their wits end. Until now, the truth on that ill-fated day still eludes them and remains a mystery.

I couldn't bear to look at his son. It's so heart wrenching that I felt like leaving immediately. But the father spoke to me briefly the other day.

Him: I have already acknowledged my fate. I do not want to harbor false hopes when all of us know that he is never going to recover.

I: Hmm..

Him: When the doctor told me that his chance of recovery is close to nil, I did not believe him. I sought a second opinion from this world renowned doctor. That was when I know that I have been deceiving myself all this while.

I: Hmm..

Him: My wife has to work in the day and can only visit him in the evening. She cries everyday and suffers from depression because of him.

I: Hmm..

Him: People raise their kids, we also raise our kids. People's kids become doctors and lawyers, but our boy..

I: Hmm..

Seriously, I really didn't know what to say. I felt like telling him that it's good he accepted the truth and since that's the case, don't be too upset. But nothing came out. Because I know that no amount of words can reduce the pain in his heart.

All of us feel that life is unfair at some point in time. I am guilty of it as well. But remember. "No one ever promised you that life is fair. What you want and what you get are usually two entirely different things".

This is what I came across in a novel I was reading and I was surprised that the author could echo my thoughts exactly on the type of girl that I fancy.

"What really attracted me to her was her manner. She laughed a lot, and it's easy to fall for someone who can find humor in any situation. She was also intelligent, well read, and well spoken, willing to listen and confident in her beliefs. And most of all, she was warm. She treated my friends as if they'd been her friends for years, would wave and smile at both children and the elderly. She seemed genuinely interested in everyone."

Anyway, I would be starting my MDIS course tomorrow. I am feeling a sense of anticipation as of now. Maybe it's because I do not know where this might take me. But well, as my tuition teacher mentioned, there is no harm in studying more. Who knows? In a few years time, I might see myself elsewhere instead of the hospitality industry!

I have not been in the best of health recently. Came down with flu and cough last week and my hectic schedule didn't help much. I guessed I have clocked up like 30 hours of sleep for the past 3 days?? Amazing..

Where was I? Oh.. Susan's Birthday!

We went Al Dente especially to find John and celebrate Susan's birthday at the same time. We really meant to pay him a visit. Really. Drinks and desserts were on the house by the way. Haha.. Dinner started at 7 and Hazel arrived slightly late, about 3 hours later. Nevertheless, we had fun drinking Pussyfoot and snapping away. We then went to Partyworld, a directive from the Princess (of the day) and it was great! I couldn't recall any other KTV sessions that left us perspiring! I think we were hopping and bouncing rather than singing! A photo check revealed a total of 118 shots for that day! Check (some of) them out!

I had a Sakae and Panasonic weekend. Bernard and I went to Bugis to look for Hazel and Susan after K lunch on Saturday. We ended up at Sakae for lunch. Yes. Lunch again. Ate up 55 bucks worth of sushi and thats after a 10% discount! After that, I accompanied Bernard to shop for his digi cam and he bought Panasonic Lumix in the end. We took a few virgin shots with it but apparently, the files are too big to send through MSN. (6 megapixel big f*** is it?) Haha.. Since Susan came up with something special using photoshop, I shall post her special edition photo here!
